River
This group of images is testament to a long-felt connection with our rivers and waterways. The majority of these photographs were taken in Scotland and were the springboard and initiative for the project ‘What Lies Within?’, which looks at river pollution in England and Wales.
Scotland has its own concerns with its rivers such as increasing water temperature and loss of biodiversity. Year on year this is having a knock-on effect on keynote species such as the Atlantic Salmon. Fortunately for now their iconic rivers do not have quite such a problem with pollution, though it is known to occur (thankfully on a smaller scale).
This selection of painterly images capture moments in time and the extraordinary colour palette of the natural world. Photographically I am drawn to the fact that on a river it will always be almost impossible to recreate the same image. Factors such as water levels, (and therefore water velocity), time of day, weather, the season and of course the resulting light mean that nothing looks the same from one day to the next.
